PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Utility crews say several thousand Maine homes and businesses are without power even though the state has been spared the worst of a storm that has pummeled the East Coast.
Central Maine Power says 2,600 customers have lost power, including 1,500 in Kennebec County. Bangor Hydro Electric Co. says that about 500 of its customers are in the dark.
Tom Hawley from the National Weather Service says rainfall totals in Maine are going to be much smaller than the 2 to 4 inches originally forecast. He says it’ll be closer to 1 to 1½ inches of rain.
Overall, he says Maine dodged a bullet as the worst of the storm passed to the west. Wind has still caused some problems, with a 36-mph gust in Bangor and a 35-mph gust in Millinocket.
