BRUNSWICK — Airborne and horizontal, Ali Hersi directed a deflection into the net with 11:39 to play to snap a scoreless tie and send Lewiston to a thrilling 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Brunswick in a KVAC boys’ soccer game Saturday.

The victory avenged a 1-0 loss to the Dragons (9-1) last month.

Hersi’s game-winner was set up by Yusaf Yama, who drilled a shot from close range. The shot was deflected toward the left post, where Hersi flicked it home with the inside of his foot before falling on his back.

Brothers Bengi and Shobow Saban teamed up on a key insurance goal with 3:40 to play to help seal the victory for the Devils (7-2).

Scott Ouellette made seven saves for the shutout. Seth Holmblad made eight saves for Brunswick.

St. Dom’s 3, Geo. Valley 0

THOMASTON — Alex Parker’s first-half goal was all St. Dom’s needed in an overwhelming 3-0 victory over Georges Valley on Saturday.

Jack Erickson and Josh Brown scored insurance goals in the second half. Erickson’s came off a header on a corner kick.

Cam Hainey made three saves for the Saints, while Ben Caron had 10 stops for Georges Valley.

Wiscasset 1, Lisbon 0

LISBON FALLS — Tyler Sonia’s goal 2:30 into the match was the difference as Wiscasset remained undefeated by beating Lisbon 1-0 in boys’ soccer Saturday.

Ross Hanley fed a pass through to Sonia who buried the shot past Greyhound keeper Shane Tanguay (8 saves). Mason Brewer turned aside five shots for the Redskins (9-0-1).

Fullbacks Elliot Manocal and Justin Grant provided a solid defensive effort for the Greyhounds (5-5) to keep the game close.

Monmouth 4, Winthrop 0

MONMOUTH — Freshman striker Kyle Fletcher notched a hat trick as Monmouth galloped to a 4-0 victory over Winthrop in MVC boys’ soccer action Saturday.

The Mustangs (5-4) were superb on defense as Kyle Brown, Drew McFarren, Tim Whitmore, Eric Coulombe and Brandon Goff stepped up to the challenge in the winning effort.

Nick Trenholm added a safety to round out the scoring for the Mustangs.

Goalie Cameron MacMillian made 15 saves for the Ramblers (1-7), while Robby Neal turned away seven to earn the win in net for Monmouth.

Telstar 4, Mtn. Valley 0

RUMFORD — In a game where the wind was a factor, Daniel Vaughn scored the only first-half goal 40 seconds before the half as Telstar sailed to a 4-0 victory over Mountain Valley in MVC boys’ soccer action Saturday.

The Ramblers (7-3) dominated in the second half, scoring three goals in the frame. Vaughn recorded his second goal of the game, while Nick Mills contributed a pair in the second half.

Goalie Rick James made two saves for the Falcons (2-8), while Kyle Gauvin turned back three shots to earn the win in net for Telstar.

Oxford Hills 2, Cony 0

PARIS — Garrett Hudanish and Matt Beauchesne each scored a goal as Oxford Hills (2-8) kept winless Cony (0-8-1) quiet with a 2-0 victory in a boys’ soccer game.

Hudanish did the honors in the first half when he scored of Brian Lynch’s feed. Beauchesne followed with his goal in the second half on feed from Derek Morin pass.

Oxford Hills goalie Matt McVeety made two key saves to keep the Rams silent.

Mt. Abram 2, Carrabec 1

NORTH ANSON — Molly McCafferty scored the eventual game-winner to lead Mt. Abram to a 2-1 victory over Carrabec.

Jill Howard scored seven minutes into the game to get the Roadrunners on the board first. After McCafferty scored her unassistd tally to give Mt. Abram a two-goal cushion, Becca Bergeron scored for the Cobras at 38:30.

Wiscasset 1, Lisbon 0

LISBON — Sydney Morin took a centering pass from Sarah Hanley and slipped it into the net from roughly 18 yards out with 2:51 remaining in the second overtime to give Wiscasset a 1-0 upset victory over Lisbon in an MVC girls’ soccer game Saturday.

The Greyhounds (6-2-1) dominated much of the action, outshooting Wiscasset 18-7 and enjoying a 7-4 margin in corner kick, but were continuously frustrated by goalie Kasey Cromwell, who finished with nine saves. The Redskins improved to 2-5-2.

Kyrstin Ramich had four saves for Lisbon.

Dirigo 3, Mtn. Valley 2

RUMFORD — Natalie Bolduc’s two second-half goals led Dirigo to a 3-2 triumph over rival Mountain Valley.

The Falcons (3-5-1) led 2-0 early in the second half after Jamaica Ford’s second goal of the game with 29:51 left to play. Fifty seconds later, Bolduc cut the deficit to one on a feed from Addy Fuller. Less than four minutes later, Bolduc knotted the score.

The game-winning goal was an unassisted score by Paige Murphy with 5:49 left in the match. Natasha Deroche stopped seven shots in earning the win for Dirigo (7-2-1) while Breana Roberts made eight saves for Mountain Valley.

Hebron 3, Carrabassett 2

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Chelsea Boucher scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Hebron edged Carrabassett Valley Academy.

Boucher broke a 1-1 tie in the 38th minute to put the Lumberjacks up 2-1 at the half.

Chloe Cochrane tied the game 26 minutes into the second half for Carrabasset Valley, but Boucher netted the game-winner with four minutes remaining in regulation.

Monmouth 6, Winthrop 1

MONMOUTH — Freshman Kylie Kemp and sophomore Chelse Arsenault scored two goals each as Monmouth grabbed a 6-1 victory from Winthrop in MVC girls’ soccer.

The Mustangs (5-4) covered a lot of ground, outshooting the Ramblers (0-8) by a 38-7 margin. Danielle Bumann chipped in with a goal and an assist as Monmouth spread the scoring around with plenty of nice passing.

Goalie Danielle Pease made 18 saves for Winthrop, while Kelsie Hilton deflected six to earn the win for Monmouth.

Greenville 2, Rangeley 1

GREENVILLE — Miranda Drinkwater scored the eventual game-winning goal as Greenville took a 2-1 victory from Rangeley.

Rangeley scored first when Abby Abbott converted a nifty cross from Morgan Rodway.

One minute later, Gretel Breton manufactured a goal on an assist from Drinkwater. Drinkwater’s winning tally came with six minutes remaining in the game.

Field hockey

Brunswick 2, Mt. Blue 1

FARMINGTON — After her team rallied late to tie the game, Kyia Jensen scored off a deflection in overtime to lift Brunswick to a 2-1 triumph over Mt. Blue.

The Cougars (2-9) broke a scoreless deadlock with six minutes to play on Elizabeth Leclair’s unassisted goal. But, the Dragons tied it 1:30 later on Grace Rabinavitz’s tally to force overtime.

Kasey Gaboury made 12 saves for Mt. Blue, while Sydney Escoe made nine for Brunswick.

Liv. Falls 11, St. Dom’s 2

LIVERMORE FALLS — Kathryn Ventrella netted four goals while Samantha Greenwood registered a hat trick and a pair of assists to lead Livermore Falls to an 11-2 field hockey win over St. Dom’s.

The Andies (11-1) led 5-1 at the half and controlled the game from the outset. Kim Theriault added a pair of goals while Liz Cote (3 assists) and Megan Therrien each contributed a goal. Lauren Ratsep tallied both of the St. Dom’s goals.

Caylee Morris made five saves in earning the win while Jenna Fongemie turned away 25 shots for the Saints.

NYA 10, Poland 0

NORTH YARMOUTH — Kat Millet pounded home four goals and Francis Leslie added three as North Yarmouth Academy cruised to a 10-0 win over Poland.

The Panthers (11-1) led 3-0 at the half and exploded for seven unanswered goals in the second. They outshot the Knights (0-12) by a 42-0 margin and held an 11-0 difference in penalty corners. Hannah Hearn and Katie Crowley chipped in with a goal apiece.

Mariah Farrell earned the shutout while Melora Lavoie made 32 saves for Poland.

Edward Little 2, Bangor 2

BANGOR — Hillary Throckmorton’s goal with 3:23 left in the game salvaged a 2-2 tie for Bangor in a field hockey tilt with Edward Little.

The Red Eddies (7-3-1) built a 2-0 first-half lead on goals from Miranda Martin and Emily Ranucci.

The Rams (3-7-1) stormed back in the second half, collecting an unassisted goal from Dana Libbart and Throckmorton’s unassisted effort.

Amanda Williams made 13 saves for EL while Megan Six stopped three shots for Bangor.

Oxford Hills 1, Brewer 0

SOUTH PARIS — Senior center forward Hannah Warren posted the game-winning goal as Oxford Hills tripped up Brewer.

Warren’s goal came on a relay from Ashley West, who passed the ball on a corner play in the first half for the Vikings (6-4).

Goalie Casey White made nine saves for the Witches, while keeper Rachel Brennan fanned seven to earn the shutout in net for Oxford Hills.

Lisbon 5, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Lindsey Whitney scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead Lisbon to a 5-0 shutout victory over Dirigo.

Whitney scored just nine minutes into the first half for the Greyhounds (6-5). Jessica Campbell scored on a cross from Allie Fitzgerald, her third assist of the game, in the second half.

Jenn Smith and Heather Budsheim played solid defense for the Greyhounds.

Goalie Amanda Dolloff made 14 saves for the Cougars (4-7), while Haylee Jamison prevented three to earn the win in net for Lisbon.

Gardiner 1, Leavitt 0

TURNER — Keylee Heath recorded the only goal of the game as Gardiner grabbed a 1-0 win over Leavitt.

The Tigers (8-1-1) outshot the Hornets (7-2-1) by a margin of 15-10 in the game. Heath’s goal came at the 2:56 mark of the first half.

Goalie Taylor Eells made 14 saves for Leavitt, while Alley Beaulieu turned away seven shots to earn the win in net.
