OXFORD — The newly formed Oxford County CASH Coalition is looking for volunteers to help out during the income tax season, from January to March of 2011.
Two informational meetings will be offered for interested volunteers. They will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Region 9 building in Mexico and from 6 to 7:30 p.m, Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Norway Town Office.
There are several volunteer positions available, including tax preparers, coaches and greeters. Volunteers will work a few evenings or a Saturday morning during the tax season.
Volunteer tax preparers will take classes to learn to complete 1040 and 1040 EZ tax forms online. Tax preparers will have a support network for any questions that may arise.
Volunteer coaches will learn about ways families can minimize their tax liability, refer people to programs and services that may help them and identify what paperwork they need to bring to their session.
Volunteer greeters will help people feel comfortable and ready for the tax preparer.
Volunteers will choose to work in either Mexico or the Norway-Paris area.
The Oxford County CASH Coalition is a collaboration of the United Way of Oxford County, Region 9 Adult Education, AARP, IRS, Community Concepts, Central Maine Community College, Healthy Oxford Hills and others that want to help limited income Oxford County taxpayers.
