BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Off-duty unionized nurses at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor are headed to the picket line to raise public awareness of ongoing contract negotiations with the hospital administration.
The pickets are planned for Monday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The three-year-contract between the 850-nurses and the medical center expired at midnight Sept. 30.
The Bangor Daily News says the provisions of the contract remain in effect.
Negotiations for a new contract have been under way since July.
One of the issues that separates nurses from the administration is mandated staffing levels. Hospital officials say they’ve offered some concessions to the nurses, but the won’t be specific.
Negotiations are due to resume Oct. 13.
