LISBON — The Telstar field hockey squad posted a goal in each half Wednesday, enough to defeat Winthrop 2-0 and claim the 2010 MVC Championship.

The Rebels (13-1) received one goal from Katie Sumner and the other from Kayla Merrill.

To make sure her team came out on top, Merrill also contributed an assist on Sumner’s goal.

Hali Barter needed only four saves to notch the shutout, while Lorin Bryant turned back five shots in the cage for Winthrop.

Both teams will Class C tournament play next week.
