RUMFORD — U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, will attend the Social Security Administration’s ribbon-cutting to unveil new video service delivery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Rumford Public Library on 56 Rumford Ave.

In partnership with the library, the administration is providing video conference technology to improve service to rural communities.

According to a Tuesday report, residents of Rumford and its surrounding communities using the technology can now conduct Social Security business “face to face” without first traveling to Auburn.

“This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the Social Security Administration’s new video conference technology,” Robert Clark, public affairs specialist, stated. “We will introduce this user-friendly technology at this event.”

Rumford is the first location in New England to have the new technology, Clark said.
