DEAR SUN SPOTS: My brother gave me a gardening cart, and it had this picture in it. It is a picture of newlyweds and has the following information on the back: “Married May 8, 1943, St. Croix (Holy Cross), Mr. and Mrs. Ougene Bouffard, 60 Maple St.”
If you know this couple or if you’re related, please call me at 782-6209. — Liz Cantin, Lewiston
ANSWER: The photo is not a professionally produced picture, but rather a snapshot and a little the worse for wear, but perhaps would still be treasured considering that it was taken during World War II.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like your help. I subscribed to Sirius satellite radio. The last time they deducted money from my account I called to cancel my account that same day and they said they would refund the $76.93 they had deducted. This was on Aug. 20.
Since then I have called countless times, talked to numerous people, including supervisors and still have not received the money. They claim the money has been posted to my account, which it has not. I have called the bank to make sure, and they say they have no record of it.
Now when I call and ask to be connected to a supervisor I am disconnected every time or transferred back to someone that can’t help me, sometimes after waiting 40 minutes. I don’t know what to do anymore, and I am told you can help with this sort of thing. Thanks for your help in advance. — Jen via e-mail
ANSWER: Sun Spots suggests you contact the Consumer Protection Service of the Maine Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-436-2131. Details of their services are available at www.maine.gov/ag/consumer/index.shtml.
Sun Spots recommends paying charges with a credit card whenever possible. That way you can file a dispute with the credit card company. If the money is taken directly from your checking or savings, it’s much more difficult to get a refund.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can Sun Spots please find out when Hodgman’s frozen custard in New Gloucester will be open for its annual winter weekends? Thanks so much. — Joni Herling, joniherling@yahoo.com
ANSWERS: Sun Spots does not have any secret info on Hodgman’s. Last year she just kept calling their phone number, 926-3553, until there was a message telling customers when they’d be open and what ice cream they would have. Halloween is probably too soon to expect a message. Thanksgiving seems like a good time to check back.
