HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Democrat Dan Malloy says he’s confident when all the votes are tallied that he’ll be the next governor of Connecticut.
The race remained too close to call and appeared headed to a recount Wednesday, with just more than 1,000 votes separating Malloy and Republican Tom Foley.
Foley, a Greenwich businessman and former U.S. ambassador, said he expected a recount. But Malloy, the former mayor of Stamford, said his numbers showed him with at least a 1 percent margin of victory. Votes remaining to be counted were in several precincts in New Haven and Bridgeport, which tend to lean Democratic.
Foley scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
