A Central Maine Power Co. lineman attempts to move a shattered utility pole so he can lop it off with a chain saw to free it from wires Saturday. Robert Charity, 35, of Carthage lost control of his 2000 Ford F-150 pickup and drifted into the soft sand shoulder as he rounded a curve and slewed, prompting Charity to over-correct into the pole, he said. Dixfield Sgt. Jeffrey Howe said neither Charity or his 11-year-old son were injured, but damage to the pole and truck was estimated at $4,000. Dixfield firefighters closed traffic on the road between Dixfield and Carthage for an hour due to the danger of live power lines. No charges are expected.
