PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A federal judge in Maine has ruled in favor of the town of Waldoboro and a former police officer who shot and killed an 18-year-old man following a traffic stop three years ago.
The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge George Singal says the lawyers representing the family of Gregori Jackson failed to respond to filings by attorneys for the town of Waldoboro and former officer Zachary Curtis.
In January, Natalie and Millard Jackson of Whitefield filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming Curtis did not have enough training when he shot and killed their son.
The Maine attorney general’s office had cleared Curtis of any wrongdoing in the Sept. 23, 2007 shooting.
The Portland Press Herald says the Jacksons’ lawyers withdrew from the case.
