DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where would I inquire to learn the fate of a World War II serviceman? — Frank Koris, Rumford
ANSWER: The website for the World War II memorial (www.wwiimemorial.com) has a registry where you can enter the name of a veteran or search for someone. Sun Spots feels certain that someone at the Rumford library would help you look up your old comrades.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My daughter-in-law used body wax the other day and spilled some on her work pants. Do you or any of your readers know how to get this out? — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: Sun Spots found several online solutions, but the most thorough explanation was at ehow.com (http://tinyurl.com/2cd79z6).
It instructs you to scrape off all the loose wax, then use an iron to transfer the wax onto a paper bag that you place above and below the waxy spot on the clothing. Move the bag as it absorbs the wax.
If the wax is colored, additional efforts to remove the color are outlined on the website above.
After you’ve got most of the wax out, wash the item but don’t dry it until you are sure the stain is gone.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a problem. I called my Fuller Brush dealer to get some lambs wool waxing pads, and he told me the company has stopped making them. I am hoping some other dealer has some left and would call me at 782-6481. Thank you. — Beryl Robinson, Auburn
ANSWER: Sun Spots went to the Fuller Brush website hoping they had them there, but it doesn’t look like it. She hopes readers will be able to help you.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a Saladmaster jet coffee percolator. They no longer make them. If anyone would have one they no longer use, I would be interested in buying it at a reasonable price. — Mrs. Linwood Richards, Jay, 897-3269
ANSWER: There are some available online at eBay and other sites if you have access to the Internet.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have the 2010 nickel someone was looking for. They can call me at 783-7009, and I will send it to them. — Gabrielle, St. Mary’s Residence, Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Calvary United Methodist Church at 59 Sabattus St. is pleased to invite your readers to attend our Christmas gala on Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.
For a $5 donation at the door, you will enjoy a display of Christmas decorations from years gone by, and refreshments will be served.
We are also presently selling tickets for items donated by local merchants and friends of Calvary. These items will be at least $20 in value and range from a night at a bed and breakfast to hand-crafted items and gift certificates from merchants and restaurants.
Each $10 ticket will yield a gift. The tickets are currently being sold by members of Calvary. The drawings will be held during the tea, but you do not need to be present to win.
Please join us in this holiday celebration. — No Name, Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Edward Little Music Association will be providing gift wrapping for the holiday season again this year at the Auburn Mall, continuing through Christmas Eve.
This is the association’s largest fundraiser for the year and helps to provide music scholarships and equipment for the music programs at both the high school and middle school.
Wrapping costs vary depending on the size of the gift being wrapped. Gifts purchased elsewhere may be wrapped too.
The association is looking for volunteers to help with the wrapping, especially weekdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This is a great opportunity for a retired person to help the Music Association raise much-needed funds!
For more information, please contact wrapping booth scheduler Mary Gagnon at 786-0610. — Dan Philbrick, daniel.philbrick@gmail.com
