AUBURN — A Lewiston woman lost control of her car as she was changing lanes on Veterans Memorial Bridge on Tuesday night, causing the car to leave the highway, hit a streetlight and land on an embankment, police said.
Speed may have been a factor in the 6:10 p.m. crash, police said.
The driver was identified by police as Lucinda Turcotte, 19. She was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with facial injuries. Her passenger, Justin Nickerson, 21, of Lewiston, complained of head and neck pain and was also taken there, police said.
A 2-year-old child in the car was not injured.
Deep tire tracks were visible in the grass where Nickerson’s Toyota Solara left the Auburn-bound lane. The car slammed into a light pole, knocking it over.
The vehicle had damage to the driver’s side and trunk, and it was unclear whether the aluminum pole had struck the car when it fell.
