PORTLAND — A Lewiston man found walking with a gun on Knox Street last summer was sentenced to federal prison Friday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Gregory Pontoo, 26, was ordered to spend three years behind bars, to be followed by three years of probation.
According to court records, on Aug. 20, 2009, Lewiston police found a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol in Pontoo’s waistband. Because of a robbery conviction in 2001, Pontoo had been prohibited from possessing firearms.
He was arrested and charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The case against him was investigated by Lewiston police, the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
