LEWISTON — A teenager on a bicycle was knocked down by a car while crossing Lincoln Street as darkness fell Monday afternoon.

A Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Maurice Nadeau of Auburn struck the bicycle’s rear tire and knocked 15-year-old Cameron Sibley of Lewiston to the ground as it made a left turn from Cedar Street onto Lincoln Street at about 4:30 p.m., police said.

Several passers-by stopped to help while waiting for police and an ambulance to arrive. Tracy Walker of Jefferson said she was driving to a hazardous materials class when she saw the accident. An EMT, she stopped her car in the road and rushed to the boy’s side.

Chelsea Aube of Lisbon was walking in the area when she heard the impact, and called 911 immediately, she said. She then moved Walker’s car out of the street.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, appeared to suffer a bump on the head, Walker said. His bicycle’s rear wheel was bent into a taco-shape.
