OAKLAND — After a 23-23 deadlock at the halftime break, Edward Little went on a 13-7 run in the third quarter and hung on for a 53-47 victory over Messalonskee in more KVAC girl’s basketball action Thursday.
Ashlee Arnold led the Red Eddies (5-0) with a solid 23-point effort, while Frankie Lally chipped in with 13.
The Eagles (5-2) were led by Megan Pelletier with a game-high 24 points, the only player in double figures.
Morse 66, Mt. Blue 31
BATH — Nikoline Ostergard ignited a 23-point rally in the third quarter as Morse raced away to a 66-31 victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC girl’s basketball action Thursday.
Ostergard finished with a team-high 21 points, 12 of which came in that big third-quarter run. She was also credited with nine steals in a solid all-around effort. Tarra Burr chipped in for the unbeaten Shipbuilders (7-0) with 13 points, while Emma Block added nine.
The Cougars were paced by Miranda Nicely with 13 points, while Jillian Perron added eight.
Skowhegan 46, Lewiston 26
SKOWHEGAN — Senior guard Amanda Johnson collected 13 points to lead Skowhegan to a 46-26 victory over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ basketball action Thursday evening.
The Indians went on a 17-0 run in the first quarter and took a 20-8 halftime lead, before relaxing in the third quarter and finishing strong in the final frame.
Freshman forward Brie Wilson was the leading scorer for the Blue Devils (0-7) with nine points on four field goals and a free throw.
Alex Wilson tallied nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks despite scoring only one point for Lewiston in the losing effort.
Livermore Falls 39, Monmouth 14
MONMOUTH — Kathryn Ventrella poured in 10 points Thursday to propel Livermore Falls to a 39-14 victory over Monmouth in a MVC girl’s basketball matchup.
The Andies (5-0) jumped out to a 15-2 advantage in the first quarter and were never challenged. Marissa Welch chipped in with seven points, while Micela Baron added six.
Kristine Kahl led the Mustangs (3-2) with six points, while Kylie Kemp added four.
Mt. Abram 48, Wiscasset 37
WISCASSET — Miranda Smith had a big night on the boards and scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as Mt. Abram stopped winless Wiscasset (0-5) with a 48-37 victory in a girls’ basketball game Thursday night.
Teammate Mykala Luce scored the team-high for the Roadrunners (2-4).
Mt. Abram built a 24-18 lead at halftime and then held the Redskins to single digits in the fourth quarter.
For Wiscasset, Alli Johnson and Kayla Connors each scored 14 points.
Jay 56, Lisbon 25
JAY — Jay got fired up and went on a 20-4 run in the second quarter and pulled steadily away from Lisbon to record a 56-25 victory in a holiday vacation girl’s hoops matchup Thursday.
Alexis Blodgett led the Tigers (5-1) with 18 points, including four from beyond the arc. Beth Moore was one of two players with a double-double, netting 15 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. Alexi Deering also contributed with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Greyhounds (2-4) were paced by Alexa Harmon with six points, while Allie Fitzgerald and Jessica Campbell each added five.
Mtn. Valley 58, Georges Valley 38
RUMFORD — Junior guard Makayla White came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points and lead Mtn. Valley to a 58-38 victory over Georges Valley in MVC girls’ basketball action Thursday.
The Falcons (4-2) executed a well-balanced offensive attack as four players scored in double digits. Ayla Allen contributed 13 points, while Chrissy Briggs added 11 and McKenzie Paterson chipped in with 10 points.
Sophomore center Kennadi Grover notched a game-high 17 points for the Buccaneers (2-4) in the losing effort.

Edward Little 52, Messalonskee 45
OAKLAND — After trailing by 10 in the opening minutes of the contest, Edward Little found a rhythm and hustled to a 52-45 victory over Messalonskee in a KVAC boy’s basketball matchup Thursday.
Bo Leary led the Red Eddies (5-0) with a game-high 21 points, while Timmy Mains chipped in with 11. Quinn Leary also contributed with 10 points in a well-balanced attack.
The Eagles (1-4) were paced by Luke Bartlett and Gage Landry with 12 points apiece, while Ryan McLellan added 11.
Brewer 56, Oxford Hills 54
SOUTH PARIS — Senior guard Yuhi Sasaki recorded a game-high 20 points to lead Brewer to a harrowing 56-54 win over Oxford Hills in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
The Witches (3-4) jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead. But, that margin evaporated as the Vikings (2-5) took a brief lead in the second quarter and a Brewer victory was elusive over the remaining course of the game.
Senior guard Ray Bressette contributed 11 points and eight assists for the Witches, while Sasaki went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.
Junior forward Josh MacDonald posted a team-leading double-double for Oxford Hills with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Dan Taylor pitched in with 12 points, while Matt Beauchesne notched a team-leading six assists in the losing effort.
Jay 53, Lisbon 28
JAY — Kyle Storer scored 10 of Jay’s 20 points in the first quarter and the Tigers rolled to a 53-28 victory over Lisbon Thursday night in MVC boys’ basketball action.
With seven of his 10 rebounds coming on the offensive boards, Storer’s dominance inside helped the Tigers open a 29-16 lead at halftime. Jay then played shutdown defense in the third quarter, limiting the Greyhounds to two free throws to pull away.
Storer finished with 12 points, as did James Barker, to lead the Tigers (3-3). Mike Degou led the Greyhounds (0-6) with a game-high 14 points.
Skowhegan 58, Lewiston 52
SKOWHEGAN — Levi Barnes provided some serious offensive output for Skowhegan with 28 points as the Indians battled to a 58-52 victory over Lewiston in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Senior forward Abdi Osman led the Blue Devils (4-3) with 14 points on seven field goals.
The Indians led by 11 early in the third quarter when Lewiston turned on the accelerators and took a five point lead with six minutes to go. But Skowhegan finished with an 18-6 run to secure the win.
Girls’ ice hockey
St. Dom’s 7, Cheverus 2
PORTLAND — Junior forward Marisa Zamrock stockpiled four goals and an assist to lead St. Dom’s to a 7-2 victory over Cheverus in girls’ ice hockey action Thursday evening.
The Saints (8-1) scored three goals in each of the second and third periods, while conducting a strong defense. Lauren Ratsep contributed two goals for St. Dom’s.
Junior forward Julia Lambert provided a goal and an assist for the Stags (7-2) in the losing effort.
