LIVERMORE FALLS — Regional School Unit 36 Superintendent Sue Pratt told directors Thursday that much needs to be done to merge with the Jay school system before July 1.
“Our work has just begun,” she said. “We have a lot to do.”
On Tuesday, voters in Jay and the RSU 36 towns of Livermore and Livermore Falls approved consolidating the two systems.
Once the State Board of Education certifies the new organizational structure, the state will call a joint meeting of both school boards to appoint a RSU Transition Committee. The boards will also select an interim secretary, possibly a joint effort by both superintendents, Pratt told directors. The boards will also set a date for new board members to be elected.
Pratt and Jay Superintendent Bob Wall and Jay school Business Manager Stacie Lowe will serve on the Transition Committee as nonvoting members. Others will be RSU 36 board Chairman Ashley O’Brien, Jay School Committee Chairwoman Mary Redmond-Luce, representatives of selectmen from each town, and other nonvoting members.
The Transition Committee will be charged with doing a detailed analysis of each system’s respective budgets for 2010-11, including operating expenditures, staffing duties, administrative structures and all financial obligations.
It will also prepare a short- and long-term savings plan that specifically identifies how the savings are to be attained. The plan needs to show the tax impacts of reorganization.
The committee will participate in the preparation of each district’s 2011-12 budget-building process and development of a transitional supplemental budget, the plan states.
Curriculum mapping will be developed so clear curriculum expectations can be presented prior to the start of the first school year.
