RUMFORD — Selectmen appear to be in for a short meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

The agenda’s only discussion item is the Med-Care Ambulance assessment. Town Manager Carlo Puiia broached that at the board’s Jan. 20 meeting by reading a letter from Med-Care Director Dean Milligan.

Puiia said Milligan explained that the per capita fees were based on Rumford’s current population being 6,192 people, which would bring the town’s assessment to $105,264 for this year.

That’s a $12,384 increase, he said.

Selectman Mark Belanger, one of Rumford’s representatives on the Med-Care Board of Directors, explained that the assessment is not part of Med-Care’s new building project.

Although Belanger voiced concern about the legalities of the project being financed for 30 years, despite Rumford’s interlocal agreement being seven years.

Further complicating the issue, selectmen and Puiia said they believed Rumford’s population to be between 3,000 and 4,000, which Milligan said in a subsequent interview would cause the town to be assessed more money per capita.

Selectmen asked Puiia to have Milligan attend the Feb. 3 meeting to further explain the assessment and to answer their questions.

Other agenda items include:

* A request from Central Maine Power for transmission line access on town property.

* Routine approval of a liquor license application and special amusement permit for the Sons of Italy social club.

* Approval of quitclaim deeds for Wyman Hill Properties.

An executive session with Puiia on economic development closes out the meeting.
