Last week’s results:

The win goes to the fox. Kind of.

While the Farmers’ Almanac called for snow or a wintry mix around Valentine’s Day, Stormy correctly predicted sun for the day. (The almanac was right that it would turn mild and windy between Feb. 12 and 15. According to Weather Underground, temps on Valentine’s Day reached 46 and it was windy over the 14th and 15th.)

It’s about time to restock the woodpile. What’s one of the best days to cut firewood?

The choices: 1) Feb. 17;  2) Feb. 18; 3) Feb. 19.

The food: Dog food.

The Farmers’ Almanac says: Get swinging on Feb. 17.

Stormy says: Feb. 17. Another ditto. (In the interest of full disclosure, she also peed on pile No. 1. We’re not sure what to make of that, besides her choice being an emphatic one.)

Stormy’s Furcast is a winter-long series testing the weather predictions of the good-natured folks at the nearly 200-year-old Farmers’ Almanac against an equally good-natured fox who lives at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. The almanac is based on science and secret formulas. The fox makes her pick choosing from three piles of food, appropriately labeled. Each week, a new question and the previous week’s results. May the best forecaster, or furcaster, win.
