The new building of the Union Musicale Society of New Auburn was opened to the public for inspection and at the concert, about 800 were in attendance. There is every indication that at the promenade concert to be given this evening, 1000 people will be in attendance.

The program last evening was opened by the Union Musicale Band of about 30 pieces. This was followed by a solo by Napolean Sansoucier, a duet by Mr. Sansoucier and Alphonse Cote and several solos by T. W. Murphy, the Boston scenery artist.

A well-known Auburn barber shop has closed its doors for the last time.

The shop operated at the Elm Hotel by 83-year-old Herbert E. Cutler of 307 Minot Ave. closed Saturday night after 58 years in operation by the same proprietor.

The hotel, purchased recently by the Auburn Savings Bank, will be torn down to make room for a parking lot.

“I did my last barbering Saturday night,” Cutler said last night, adding that he now has entered retirement.

NORWAY — Oxford Hills citizens were told Monday night not to get discouraged if Maine is not removed from the list of potential sites for a nuclear waste repository in April and to flood federal and state officials with letters of protest.

Approximately 150 listened to several speakers at a forum sponsored by Oxford Hills ALERT. The purpose of the meeting was to provide citizens with information and urge them to write legislators stating factual reasons for opposing the sites.
