RUMFORD — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Sylvina “Syl” (DesRoches) Mahar was celebrated Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior. Fr. James Martel was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server. The Old Testament was proclaimed by Barbara Doherty. The New Testament was proclaimed by Raymond Doherty Jr. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Michelle Belanger and Jeannine Law. Personal reflections were shared by her daughter, Elizabeth Doherty. Mark Belanger was the organist. Music selections during the Mass were “Though the Mountains May Fall,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Ave Maria” and “Fly Like a Bird.” Pallbearers were John Mahar, Joe Mahar, Tom Mahar, Tim Mahar, Ray Doherty and Dr. Jerry Cohen. Spring interment will be in the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. A reception followed at 49 Franklin. Services were under the care and guidance of SG Thibault Funeral Home.
