RUMFORD – A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Sylvina “Syl” (DesRoches) Mahar was celebrated Thursday morning at Parish of the Holy Savior. The Rev. James Martel was the celebrant. George Gionet was the altar server. The Old Testament was presented by Barbara Doherty and the New Testament by Raymond Doherty, Jr. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Michelle Belanger and Jeannine Law. Personal reflections were shared by her daughter Elizabeth Doherty. Mark Belanger was the organist. Music selections during the mass were “Though the Mountains May Fall,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Ave Maria” and “Fly Like a Bird.” Bearers were John Mahar, Joe Mahar, Tom Mahar, Tim Mahar, Ray Doherty and Dr. Jerrold Cohen. Spring interment will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. A reception followed at 49 Franklin. Services were under the care and guidance of SG Thibault Funeral Home, Rumford.
