Musher takes second

POLAND — International Sled Dog Racing Association musher Heather Brannen of Poland took second in the adult 2-dog speed class at the David D. Merrill Memorial Challenge Skijoring race in Newport on Feb. 27. Brannen finished the 9.8 mile course with a time of 34 minutes, 19 seconds.

The David D. Merrill Memorial Challenge was sanctioned by the International Sled Dog Racing Association and counts towards the International Championship Series for Sled Dog Racing. To learn more about sled dog racing or this event, visit www.isdra.org.

Breastfeeding group

AUBURN — The next La Leche League meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at 102 Bennett Ave. The scheduled topic, “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” will focus on avoiding and overcoming difficulties.

La Leche League offers breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant women, new mothers and growing families. Services offered include monthly meetings and 24-hour telephone help.

Babies are always welcome. Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings and mothers find continued support throughout their breastfeeding experience. Art/lit club

LEWISTON — The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, at the Museum of Art at the Olin Arts Center, Bates College. Helen Archambault, copresident, is in charge of the program. Members will view “Selections from the Collection of Ogunquit Museum of American Art.” The group will be guided by curator Anthony Shostak.

A second exhibit, “Bound To Art: Illustrated Books from the Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library,” will be on display. Kat Stefko, director of the Muskie Archives and Special Collections, will speak on the exhibit with special emphasis on the large Audubon birds folio. This taps into the Archives Collection of rare books. Guests are welcome.

Project management course

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer the Essentials of Project Management from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 23 through March 30. The cost is $255 and includes all materials. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 16.

The Essentials of Project Management teaches technical and nontechnical professionals how to plan, organize and complete projects on time and on budget. Participants will learn how to use a variety of project management methods and tools including problem solving, work breakdown structure, estimating and forecasting, project scheduling, and Gantt charting and contingency planning.
