LISBON, Maine (AP) — Organizers of Lisbon Fall’s annual Moxie Festival have picked a winning entry for their 2011 theme contest.
The winning theme — “Moxie….it’s Maine in a bottle!” — was submitted by Jeff Moxcey of Waterville, whose name is coincidentally similar to the name of the quirky bittersweet soda that was concocted by a Mainer in the 1870s and is Maine’s official soft drink.
For his winning entry, Moxcey got a basket filled with Moxie items and will join festival VIPs at the 2011 Moxie Festival parade review stand.
In all, the Moxie Festival Committee received 67 entries from Maine, California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The 28th annual Moxie Festival is scheduled for July 8-11.
- “You’ve got Moxie,” says Farnk Anicetti, the third-generation-owner of the Kennebec Fruit Company in Lisbon Falls. The Moxie Festival began in 1982 during an autograph party inside the store. The 2011 festival theme was announced Tuesday. “Moxie — it’s Maine in a bottle!”
