LEWISTON — Maine Drug Enforcement Agents and officers from the Lewiston Police Department are  searching an apartment at 41 River Street for evidence of a suspected methamphetamine lab, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Lewiston Police secured the apartment Monday night and the MDEA meth lab team began searching the apartment late Tuesday morning, McCausland said in a statement issued at about 12:05 p.m.

Officials suspect the high additive and potentially explosive drug may have been concocted inside the apartment in the recent past, the release stated.

Drug agents were wearing protective suits and breathing masks to search the apartment.

Photos from this operation will be added to this report as soon as they become available.
