DEAR SUN SPOTS: On March 8 you gave a telephone number for Oxford Depot in Oxford for eBay selling. On calling 539-2202 I find that it is no longer in service. Have they gone out of business or just closed for the winter months? Thank you. — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: Sun Spots does not have any additional information, but she’s glad you let her know. Until the owner contacts her, Sun Spots will cease offering her information.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some vinyl I’d like transferred onto compact disc. Could you once again list the people in the L-A area who provide this service? Thank you. — David, Lewiston
ANSWER: Sun Spots has the following individuals in her Rolodex:
* Stanley Howard, abramaudio09@yahoo.com, www.abramaudio.com, 678-2770 or 860-0841, recording studio in Salem: transferring LP records and cassette tapes to CD
* Al Ibarguen, Wilton, nascar810@earthlink.net, 645-4250: transfers LP albums to CD for $4 per album, also VHS and camcorder tapes to DVDs
* Richard Rau, 225-5222: transfers of music from LP to CD, transfers of audio cassette tapes and of reel-to-reel tapes to CD
* Larry, minntate@yahoo.com, 784-224: LPs changed to CDs
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would greatly appreciate it if you would reprint the information about disposing of encyclopedias. I had written down this information, but just cannot find it.
I also seem to have mislaid the information about who buys vinyl record albums, as well as guitars and banjos. This information would also be appreciated. — Claire via e-mail
ANSWER: Sun Spots’ one outlet for encyclopedias is not currently accepting them. You may want to consider asking if your transfer station will recycle them.
As for purchasers of albums, Sun Spots has three in her files:
* Enterprise Records, 613A Congress St., Portland, 773-7672. Ask for Bob. (Bob is gone for the next couple of weeks, so you’ll want to wait to call.)
* The Record Connection, 254 Main St., Waterville, 873-1798. They are open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
* Bill O’Neill’s House of Rock ‘n’ Roll, 840 U.S. Route 1, Saco, 283-1966. He is very selective and only buys a few.
Sun Spots doesn’t recall having previously offered information on a market for used musical instruments, but on Feb. 28 Donna McCobb (754-7896, bannfamily@gmail.com) from Spurwink Services was looking for a used guitar for one of her students.
Sun Spots expects other interested individuals will quickly be firing up their email. Additional options include Dube’s Music, 14 Main St., Lisbon, 353-7600, and the Musician’s Choice, 198 Western Ave., Augusta, 623-0400, which buy and sell used instruments.
