DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to inform the community that High Street Congregational Church will not be holding a fabric supply fair this year. We will be renting spaces for a yard sale in late May, and a small amount of fabric will be available at this event.

The sale will be May 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eight-foot tables can be rented for $10. Please call Connie Ray at 782-2835 to reserve a space. — Judy, High Street Congregational Church

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am interested in learning crochet and wondered if any of your readers in the Lisbon area would be willing to teach this craft or if there are any classes nearby. I would be willing to pay for lessons. Thank you. — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: Crochet classes might be available through adult education. You can look for a course near you at www.maineadulted.org.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I inherited a fur coat, and I am wondering if there is anyone in the area who can tell me what kind of fur it is and what it might be worth? Thank you. — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: Sun Spots is sorry to say that there is little market for fur coats in this country. In other parts of the world, fur coats are still popular, so you can sell them internationally on eBay. You can also check the price online.

If you don’t want to keep it and are willing to settle for a tax deduction, here are some options:

* Advocacy groups for the homeless can use fur coats to keep the homeless warm during long Maine winters.

* At animal shelters or wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers, fur coats are used for the abandoned babies to snuggle.

* Also, theater groups sometimes need fur coats for costumes for their plays.

Some people with coats with sentimental value have them made into teddy bears for themselves, their children or grandchildren. Sun Spots has the name of two individuals who will do that for you:

* Angie Rogers, P.O. Box 185, Gray, ME 04039, 428-4415

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Holy Savior School is gearing up for its annual benefit auction on Friday, April 8, at 49 Franklin St., Rumford, at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.). Committee members have been working diligently and have gathered many wonderful items that will be available for auction.

Members want to express their gratitude to all the local, as well as out-of-town businesses, family and friends who have contributed to their worthy cause. Without the strong continued support and thoughtfulness of our surrounding community, this event would not be possible. The River Valley region is exceptional. Anyone who attends will have fun and the opportunity to walk away with some wonderful items.

Some of the items to be auctioned include Red Sox tickets, Loudon racing tickets, an American Girl doll, Keurig  coffee maker, dance lessons, iPod shuffle and Maine tourmaline jewelry — and this is only a partial list!

If any businesses, or individual, would like to donate an item or make a monetary donation to the auction, they may do so by contacting Sue Adley at 364-4919, Judy Collette at 364-5157 or the school directly at 364-2528.

We are also proud to say that our auctioneer will be Mark Prevost again this year. The general public is invited. — Judy, Rumford
