JAY — A Vermont man escaped injury late Wednesday afternoon after the loaded logging truck he was driving struck a utility pole and rolled over on Route 4.
The rig traveling southbound on the north side of Jay Hill veered to the right and into the soft shoulder of the highway, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said. The tractor-trailer struck a pole causing wires to fall on the truck, he said.
The truck was hauling a full load of pulp wood that was partially dumped when it rolled over onto the passenger side, White said.
Driver James Eastman, 35, of Hartford, Vt., was not hurt, he said.
Jay officer Mike Mejia was assisted by officer Russell Adams and the Jay Fire Rescue Department at the scene. The southbound lane was closed for several hours, White said.
The wood was off-loaded from the truck, which was towed away, he said.
Logs were removed Thursday morning from the side of the road.
White said he did not have an estimate of damage as of Thursday morning but it is believed it will be several thousands of dollars.
