At a meeting of the Lewiston Board of Mayor and Aldermen held last evening a matter which has been recurrent during many administrations was settled when the Bbard voted $200, the common council concurring, to fence the Sabattus Street cemetery. This was ordered by Alderman Davis and was passed unanimously after a short discussion. It was stated that at the present time the property was nothing more than a common pasture.

Five municipal “fence viewers” were appointed last night by Lewiston Mayor Emile Jacques.

Named to one-year terms were Raymond J. M. Boulet of College Street.; Gerald Labrie, Dow Street.; Eddie Dostie, No Name Pond Road; Henry J. Aliberti, Tampa Street.; and Richard Kisonak, Androscoggin Avenue.

Fence viewers are authorized by state statute and their duties are to settle land boundary disputes involving fence lines and the like.

LISBON — The School Committee this week withdrew official recognition of a trip Lisbon High School students were planning to take to France and England this summer.

The decision was based on the “amount of terrorism that’s going on over there and we didn’t think it was safe for our people,” Superintendent Richard Ladner explained.

“And, of course, since then the nuclear thing has built up over there, too, but that wasn’t really a part of the original decision,” he said. He said the students will not be making the trip.
