100 years ago,1911

Bates’ victory over the University of Maine was fittingly celebrated last evening with unusual pomp and ceremony. Early in the evening a nightshirt parade was organized and paraded the principal business streets. The boys went to the Empire, where they witnessed the performance of “The Eternal City,” by Kirk Brown. The boys occupied the boxes and the orchestra seats.

50 years ago, 1961

Recently appointed trustees of the Lewiston Urban Renewal Authority will hold an organizational meeting Monday morning.

Mayor Emile (Bill) Jacques reported last night the session will get under way at 9:30 a.m. in his city office building. The trustees probably will elect a chairman and consider future programs.

Trustees are Roland A. Larochelle, Amadee M. Bolduc, Joseph A. Poliquin, Denis A. Blais and John P. Scully Jr.

25 years ago, 1986

Brother Clifford M. King, SC of Woonsocket, R. I., has been selected as new principal of St. Dominic Regional High School, beginning June 15.

His major responsibilities will be in staff supervision, curriculum and total school development.

King received his bachelors degree in education/Spanish from Providence College and is presently a CAES candidate at Boston College in secondary administration.
