LISBON — Lisbon High School’s drama club will present “Footloose” on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.
Curtain will go up at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Sunday in the school gymnasium, 2 Sugg Drive. Tickets, $5, will be available at the door.
The musical revolves around Ren, who moved with his mother from Chicago to a small farming town. Ren anticipates an adjustment period at his new high school, but isn’t prepared for such rigorous local edicts as a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation.
With its Oscar- and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with new songs for the stage musical, “Footloose” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
