RUMFORD — A 40-foot steel silo containing about 100 tons of starch collapsed Monday at the Boise Cascade Paper Group plant.

According to John Shorb, director of human resources at the facility, the accident occurred at about 2 a.m. No employees were in the area at the time of the collapse, he said.

“There was no evidence in the initial investigation that any explosion or spontaneous combustion occurred,” he said. About 300 to 400 employees were working at the mill at the time, but that none were working near the silo, which is located outside.
