Clean-up

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society is inviting help for the annual clean-up night at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2. Dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, etc. will get the house ready for summer. Members and nonmembers alike are invited to help.

Newfoundland

NAPLES — The inaugural Newfoundland Day will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Black Bear Cafe, Route 302. The event will feature Newfoundland cuisine, a screeching in ceremony and giveaways. It will bring people together who are from Newfoundland as well as lots of local Maine people. Art show

RUMFORD — Pennacook Art Center will open a new show at the River Valley Technology Center, 60 Lowell St. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, to meet the artists and view the art.

There will be a door prize given that night. The show features paintings, drawings and photographs by local art professionals. The art is for sale through the Growth Council, and a portion of the proceeds will go to support their operations. The exhibit is available for viewing during the technology center’s regular office hours.

Plant sale

BETHEL — The 16th annual Bethel Library plant sale will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, on the lawn beside the library at 5 Broad St. The sale takes place rain or shine.

Local gardeners donate weed-free, pesticide-free healthy perennials that have outgrown the space in their gardens. The library is still accepting donations of perennials for the sale.

Trails Day

RUMFORD — In celebration of National Trails Day, there will be a workday Saturday, June 4, on the East Andover Road Trails at Rumford Whitecap. Meet in the parking lot on the East Andover Road, across from the trailhead, at 9 a.m. Don’t forget gloves, sturdy footwear and trail maintenance equipment such as loppers, clippers, rakes, water, snacks and lunch. Park clean-up

CANTON — Volunteers are needed to clean up the trails at Heritage Park on National Trails Clean Up Day, Saturday, June 4. Meet at the park at 9 a.m. Bring any tools you have. A hot dog lunch will be provided at noon.

Sale for animals

MEXICO — The River Valley Animal Advocates will have a plant sale, bake sale and raffle Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and June 5, at Rowe’s Afternoon Delite.

The nonprofit group helps animals and their owners in the River Valley area. They have therapy dogs that visit the local nursing homes and the hospital. The group works in Rumford, Mexico, Peru, Dixfield, Carthage, Farmington and Rangeley.
