Irish singer and flute player Nuala Kennedy will perform with young fiddler Andrea Beaton and Maine-based guitarist Owen Marshall of the Press Gang at four concert venues.

Performances will be on Monday, June, 6, at the North New Portland Community Church; on Tuesday, June 7, at Lakeside Theater in Rangeley; on Wednesday, June 8, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage; and on Thursday, June 9, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity.

Based in her adopted homeland of Scotland, Kennedy performs material from across the Irish and Scottish traditional music repertoires. She also composes her own idiosyncratic brand of music and tours in a variety of lineups from duo and quartet to a nine-piece festival band.

Kennedy grew up in Dundalk, playing traditional music in an award-winning local ceilidh band, Ceoltoiri Oga Oghrialla. She studied classical piano at the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin. Recent collaborative projects include a Scottish tour with Voyage de Nuit, featuring songs and compositions inspired by flamenco, jazz and traditional music.

One of Cape Breton’s most promising young fiddlers, Beaton has made a name for herself in dance halls, concerts, ceilidhs and festivals. Her father, Kinnon, is one of today’s most influential Cape Breton fiddlers; and her mother, Betty Beaton, is an acclaimed piano accompanist. Her paternal grandfather, Donald Angus Beaton, was one of the strongest and most popular players of his generation, and her paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Beaton, is a strongly rhythmic piano player.

Besides guitar Marshall is also proficient on the bouzouki, banjo and other stringed instruments. He appears regularly in folk venues and dance halls throughout New England and tours internationally.
