Seniors meet

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the West Bethel Grange Hall.

The menu is meatloaf and the price is $8. Reservations may be made by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877. The speaker will be Steven Seames.

Gott to speak

AUBURN — South Paris resident Patricia Probert Gott will discuss her 10th book, “Searching for a Magpie: My Adventures in China and Tibet,” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Auburn Public Library. The book chronicles the time she spent in September 2010 traveling in a loop from Beijing on to Xian; central Chengdu; Llasa, Tibet; the old city of Chongqing; down the Yangtzee River; and finally on to the port city of Shanghai.

Copies of the book will be available for signing and purchase. This is a free noontime Brown Bag Lunch Program; bring a bagged lunch if you like or order out at The Library Cafe. Drinks and dessert will be supplied.

Boudreau to speak

BRYANT POND — Joseph A. Boudreau will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9. He will be speaking of his work, when called by the government, to do a quality control check on the Patriot Missile. He will be showing pictures and documentation of the project. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Folk art

OXFORD — Do you remember folding paper, making cuts and opening it up to have beautiful snowflakes when you were younger? Welcome to the art of Scherenschnitte, a traditional folk art with origins in early Chinese history.

Clara Lamers will demonstrate how to create beautiful decorative pieces from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Oxford Congregational Church on King Street. All supplies are included in the $6 fee, but feel free to bring along small fingernail scissors if you have them. There is a limit of 30 crafters.
