CARTHAGE — Genticorum, a sought-after trio playing Quebecois music, will perform at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 19.
The band blends precise and intricate fiddle and flute work with vocal harmonies, energetic foot percussion, and guitar and bass accompaniment.
Genticorum has taken its distinctive sound, and sense of humor, across North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
The group’s second album, “Malins Plaisirs,” released in Canada in 2005, won in the Best Ensemble category at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and was nominated for Juno (Canada) and Felix (Quebec) awards.
Genticorum’s “La Bibournoise” album, released in Canada in April 2008, builds on its trademark combination of rollicking interpretations of Quebec folk songs and original instrumentals written in the traditional style.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a jam session at 6 p.m. when audience members are invited to play their musical instruments with the performers for a few minutes.
Tickets, $15, will be available at the door. For reservations, call 562-4445. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2.
