Breastfeeding

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

This month’s discussion will focus on “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” which will focus on preparing for nursing baby at birth, establishing and maintaining breastfeeding and adjusting to family life with a new baby.

Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings, and mothers find continued attendance provides support throughout their breastfeeding experience. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For more information or breastfeeding help, call the La Leche leader at 782-6645.

AUBURN — The annual meeting and potluck of the West Auburn School Historical Society was held on April 28 at the one-room school.

Newly elected officers for the coming year are Roland Lachance, treasurer; Steve Marsden, president; Mary Buker, secretary; and Richard Knight, vice-president.

NEW GLOUCESTER — The R & R Spinners and blacksmith Tim Greene will demonstrate their respective crafts beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. Free and open to the public.

NEW GLOUCESTER — Proper layout procedures, techniques and tricks to constructing dovetails will be the theme of a hands-on workshop held at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village on Saturday, June 11. Two sessions offered. Chris Becksvoort, master craftsman, is the instructor. Fee is $35; preregistration is required.

DAR yard sale

SABATTUS – Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold a yard sale to benefit the Chapter Treasury, with a brown bag lunch and chapter meeting after the sale.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at the home of Mrs. Corley Byras, 176 Litchfield Road, Bowdoin.

Members have been asked to bring sale items to Mrs. Byras’ home prior to the sale with prices on them.

Sheila Desgrosseilliers will present a program, “Folds of the Flag,” during the afternoon meeting at 1:30 p.m. The NIP for this Triennium is in and will be distributed to committee chairmen.

Wheels for World

AUGUSTA — Wheels for the World will sponsor a collection of wheelchairs and other mobility aids at Augusta Walmart from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The wheelchairs, walkers, aluminum canes and crutches collected will be restored and distributed to 22 countries where the disabled cannot get such “luxuries” and are left as castaways or have to drag themselves around by their hands. Wheels for the World is a ministry of Joni and Friends.

LEWISTON — A community shredding day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at Pleasant Street Plaza, 475 Pleasant St. The event is sponsored by Roger A. Auger & Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.
