WILTON — A woman from Strong was critically injured Thursday and her young son received minor scratches when the vehicle she was driving left Route 133, hit a rock and rolled over, Wilton police Sgt. Richard Billian Jr. said.

Amanda Crandall, 24, was traveling north on the road at about 9 a.m. toward Farmington, south of McCrillis Corner Road, near Hardy Farm Road, when her 2001 GMC Jimmy went off the road. It went into a ditch and traveled approximately 250 feet, hit a large rock and rolled over before landing on its tires, Billian said.

Crandall was ejected from the vehicle, he said in news release.

Her injuries as of Thursday morning were a femur fracture and possible chest and head injuries, Billian said.

Crandall’s 2-year-old son was secured in a car seat and stayed in place, he said.

“The child received minor scratches,” Billian said.

Crandall was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and then by medical helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center, FMH spokeswoman Jill Gray said. A CMMC spokesman said her condition was critical Thursday night.

The accident remains under investigation.

“Speed and alcohol do not appear right now to be factors,” Billian said.

Wilton police officer Brandi Alton and fire Lt. Randy Barker assisted Billian as the three followed the tire tracks showing where the vehicle left the road.

Wilton firefighters rerouted traffic on Route 133 at McCrillis Corner while Jay firefighters and police rerouted traffic at Bean’s Corner, at the intersection of Route 156.

Wilton police were also assisted by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services and Maine State Police.
