LEWISTON — The No Name Pond Watershed Management Association will begin its third summer of volunteering to sample the water at the pond’s outlets.
Two teams will collect the samples every other Saturday morning during the summer. The testing will be conducted at the Lewiston-Auburn Water Pollution Control facility on Lincoln Street. Results will be reported to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The past two years have indicated no significant change in the status of water quality at No Name Pond. However, certain factors could cause a change, making the testing necessary each summer.
Each year, the DEP recertifies the volunteers in the use of equipment and procedure. The youngest volunteer is Spencer Ward, 12, of Lewiston. He has assisted volunteers for the past two years. This year, he became the youngest person to be certified by the state. Spencer spends much of each summer with his grandparents, Marcie and Rodger Beaulieu, on No Name Pond.
