WINTHROP — A Dresden man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a motorcycle accident on Route 202 in Winthrop on Tuesday morning.

James Dickau, 51, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center by helicopter after being injured when his motorcycle hit an SUV near the transfer station just before noon, Winthrop police Detective Peter Struck said.

The injuries to Dickau’s legs were serious but not life-threatening, Struck said. The accident occurred when Iraida Macomber, 75, of East Winthrop, turned left across the eastbound lane of Route 202, Struck said.

Dickau tried to stop but was unable to, slamming into the passenger-side door of Macomber’s SUV.

Both vehicles were towed following the accident, Struck said. Police continue to investigate the accident.
