NORWAY — A Brunswick man was charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of a crash after his car left lower Main Street and burst into flames early Thursday morning.
James L. White, 42, of 74 Union St. was arrested while walking south of the accident scene, Norway police Cpl. Holli Pullen said. He was not injured and was taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris with bail set at $200 cash.
Norway fire Chief Dennis Yates said the call came in at 12:36 a.m. When firefighters got to the scene across from Aubuchon Hardware, the car “was pretty much gone,” he said.
Pullen said the car went off the pavement and hit a couple of trees before catching fire. The car stopped before going down an embankment to Pennesseewassee Stream, she said.
Norway and Paris police responded to the crash, along with the Norway Fire Department.
