JAY — The town is nearing the end of being in the Dumpster pickup service.

Selectmen voted early this year to stop the commercial service as of July 1.

The week of June 27 to June 30 will be the last pickup for those scheduled, Highway Department John Johnson said.

Business representatives may still put the trash and recyclables out for regular curbside pickup in appropriate containers, Johnson said.

The town is selling the Dumpsters to those who rent them for between $50 and $100, depending on the length of rental and size. Otherwise the town needs to be contacted to pick up the unwanted Dumpsters prior to July 1.

Selectmen decided to stop the service in an effort to save money and still provide curbside trash and recyclables pickup to residents.
