JAY — On June 9, the Adult/Continuing Education for RSU 36 and Jay held their annual graduation at the VFW Hall. Mac Haynes welcomed the graduates and the guests and introduced staff from the Learning Center.

The guest speaker was Debra Kendall, a college student who decided to further her education after Wausaw Mill closed. Her message encouraged the students to set goals and take any opportunities offered to them for success in their future. She is a great example of accepting the situation, continuing her education and striving to complete her goals.

The graduating speaker was Angela Perkins, a student who moved from Austria. Although she has a diploma from her high school in Austria, she wanted to get her GED in Maine because the grading system was completely different in Austria. Also, all of her credentials were written in German and, therefore, employees didn’t know what information they contained.

She called the adult learning center and found it very convenient and easy to enroll as a GED student. Upon entering the learning center, she immediately felt welcomed by the staff and after evaluations, found she needed to brush up on math. Without the support and help from the RSU36/Jay adult education, she would not have been able to reach this goal. Her ultimate goal is to attend college for a career in the health field.

Haynes presented diplomas to the following: Nicholas Blais, Herbert Brugger, James Alexander Dingus III, Eugene Drake, Kayla Farnum, Cheyenne N. Francis, Brandon Hall, Elizabeth Henry, Tate Hodgdon, Betsey Long, Angelina Perkins, Bruce Poulin, Jameson Ryder, Timothy Sullivan, Jamie Wiese and Lynn Williams.
