Book sale
WAYNE — The Used Book Sale and gala will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 1, at the Cary Memorial Library. The gala enables 40 ticket holders early admission to shop the sale of gently used books at great prices. Tickets are $10 per person in advance, available at the library, $12 on the day of the event, and include a glass of wine, champagne or lemonade, hors d’oeuvres and homemade desserts.
The sale will continue, no admission charge, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 2, and throughout the week during regular library hours. The library will be closed on Monday, July 4. There will be a large selection of fiction and nonfiction, including children’s books, cookbooks, mysteries, best sellers and more, in hardcover and paperback, as well as audio and video cassettes, DVDs and CDs.
On Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., all books will be sold for $1 per bag.
The Cary Memorial Library is located at 17 Old Winthrop Road, just off Route 133. For more information, call Jane at 685-3754 or the library at 685-3612. ‘Cellular memory’
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “The Cancer Journey and Cellular Memory” will take place Wednesday, July 6, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room I.
Presenter Linda Hargesheimer will discuss how positive and difficult happenings in your life can affect you down to the cellular level. Identify and explore the emotional challenges that have affected your life and learn ways to turn around and eliminate cellular memories from your body, so you can be happier and healthier.

NEW GLOUCESTER — The Sixth annual Maine Festival of American Music will be held on July 6-9 at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. Three evening concerts and a chamber music workshop day make up the festival. Evening programs include the talents of the Portland String Quartet, Island Beats Steel Band, the Sabbathday Lake Shaker community and Matt Szemela, electroacoustic violinist. LEWISTON — L/A Arts will begin their free Sounds of Summer Noontime Concerts Thursday, July 7, with Rod Picott of South Berwick. This summer’s concert series kicks off at Lewiston’s Fountain Park.
