TURNER — Guitar master Denny Breau, Jimmyjo & the Jumbol’ayuhs and high-energy jugglers Jason and Matthew Tardy will help Turner celebrate its 225th birthday on Sunday, July 3.

Festivities will begin in Turner Village with the commemorative honoring of a native service man followed by events on the green in Turner Center. These include the opening of a time capsule, music and other performances at the gazebo from 4 to 9 p.m., a bean-hole bean supper from 4 to 6 p.m. a quilt of cakes contest (residents will bake and decorate cakes in some town theme), a hay maize and activities for children, including a balloon man.

Entertainment will begin at 4 p.m. with Jimmyjo & the Jumbol’ayuhs, a Cajun dance band based in Phippsburg. Serving up lively two-steps and waltzes will be Jim Joseph on accordion, second fiddle and vocals; Pam Weeks, lead fiddle and vocals; Bill Olson, guitar; Elna Joseph, bass; and Kit Garovoy, percussion.

Breau, Maine’s beloved singer-songwriter who has the distinction of being the youngest inductee in the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame, will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. His wife, Ann, a flutist, and Frank Coffin, a bass player, will accompany him.

Breau played earlier this winter for the Cabin Fever Concert series to help raise funds for the maintenance of Turner Center Church.

The Tardy brothers will take over the stage from 8 to 9 p.m. with their blend of relentless sarcastic wit, physical comedy, live music and juggling. The duo has performed at theaters, colleges and resorts for more than 14 years, with shows at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, Golden Phoenix Casino in Reno and the White House as career highlights.
