Open house

WEST PARIS — An open house will be held at the Finnish-American Heritage Center on 8 Maple St. from 2 to 4 p.m. every Sunday throughout July and August (with the exception of Aug. 21).

This is an opportunity for the whole community to visit the museum or browse the library and gift shop. The coffee pot will be on to welcome one and all. The building is air-conditioned and handicap accessible.

Bridge results

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills duplicate bridge club met Friday. A 5 & 1/2 table Howell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A were Marty Round (Casco) and Wilma Johnson (Casco), second were Jim Dickens (Naples) and Pete Cummings (South Paris). Third were Nancy and Larry Farmer (Norway).

Finishing first in flight B were Georgette Jewell (Norway) and Ellen Shugue, second were Marilyn and Richard Canton (Bridgton), third were Milt McKeen Jr. (Bridgton) and Jim Krainin (Naples) who also were first in flight C.

Finishing second in flight C were Diana and Jim Fallon (Bridgton), third were Cindy and Bob Kirchherr (South Paris).

Summer breakfast

WATERFORD — Monday, July 4 marks the first of four Waterford Summer Breakfast dates at the Wilkins Community House at the foot of Plummer Hill Road next to the Congregational Church. The breakfasts, a tradition of more than 50 years, are from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and feature an extensive menu of eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, freshly baked muffins, donuts, juice, coffee and tea, for $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 10. Children under five eat for free.

The remaining three breakfast dates are on Wednesdays, July 20, Aug. 3 and Aug. 17. Visit the basement yard sale during the hours of the breakfasts. New goods at bargain prices appear at each yard sale.

Knitting Guild

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the First Congregational Church, South Paris, for car pooling to Jane Williams’ cottage on McWain Pond, East Waterford for a picnic. Bring a bag lunch.

Directions to cottage: At the head of Main Street in Norway take Route 118 by the Lake Store (approximately eight miles). At the junction of routes 118 and 37, turn left onto Route 37. Go by the store and up the hill by two houses on the right, the second one is green. Directly across from the house is a cottage road named Foster Avenue. Follow the cottage road to the lake and the Williams’ cottage is the second one on the left .

Food pantry

OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 5, at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second Monday evening of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 583-4780 or 627-4329.

5K run

HARRISON — Harrison Recreation Department will hold their 9th annual 5k Run by the Lake on Wednesday, July 6. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a whoopie pie.

Race time is 7 p.m., rain or shine.

Registration will be open on race day from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the Harrison Town Office, 20 Front St., or online at www.runreg.com/events/register.asp?EventID=2649. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 preregistered runners.
