LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education summer classes will begin Tuesday, July 5, and there is still time to register.
Workforce courses will be available in culinary arts, computer skills and office practice.
Academic courses will be available in English, math and science. These courses count as high school diploma credit and/or college/nursing school prerequisites. GED, ABE and ESOL classes are ongoing.

‘Knit A Bunny’

NEW GLOUCESTER — R & R Spinners will hold a demonstration of their traditional skills at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. Free and open to the public.
Parenting program
TOPSHAM — Kids First Program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Woodside Elementary School, 42 Barrows Drive.
This four-hour co-parenting education workshop for parents is designed to help address problems and reduce the negative effects of separation and divorce. This workshop will address: children’s needs as marital and family roles change; the effects of and children’s reactions to separation and divorce; talking with children about divorce or other changes; making decisions about parenting arrangements; dealing with conflict without involving children; and helping children adjust to differences between households.
Participants are encouraged to attend the program as early in the separation and divorce as possible, but it’s never too late to break old bad habits and learn healthy new ones.

BBQ, auction
WAYNE — Wayne Community Church pulled pork barbeque and silent auction will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9. Hosting this year’s event will be WGME News 13 Meteorologist Craig Miller. Silent auction items include a Boston Red Sox game package, a three-bedroom condo in Florida and a plane ride overlooking the Maine lakes.
Proceeds for the fundraiser will go to the critical church financial needs towards community activities.
Ms. Wheelchair
TURNER — The “Sit Down Stand Up” fundraiser held June 17 at Leavitt Area High School raised $1,076 for Ms. Wheelchair Maine Organization, of which $538 was donated by Monica Quimby to Heidi Conn.
The next fundraiser for the Ms. Wheelchair Maine Organization is the inaugural ‘Chair-A-Tee’ Golf Fundraiser at the Turner Highlands on Sunday, July 10. Registration is at 8 a.m., with an 8:30 start. $75 each, $300 for a team of four, includes 18 holes of golf, green and cart fees, use of practice range and box lunch.
There will be player awards and hole-in-one contests.

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free lunch and learn for cancer caregivers. “Communicating Difficult Feelings, Needs and Concerns with Your Partner” will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 11, at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room D.
Presenter Emily Ecker, LCSW, outreach oncology social worker, will discuss ways to establish open dialogue with your loved one and ways to navigate challenging conversations. A light lunch is provided.
