State police Trooper Paul Casey said the 3:55 p.m. accident happened during a rain shower when McKinnon, who was stopped to turn left at 217 Main St., was struck from behind by a 2002 Ford Windstar minivan driven by Jamie Hoyt, 30, of Rumford. Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $10,000; to the Windstar, $3,000. Casey issued McKinnon a summons on a charge of operating without a license and he is to be arraigned on Oct. 4 in Rumford District Court. Hoyt, who told Casey she didn’t see the Pontiac due to the rain, was not charged.

Hoyt’s southbound 2002 Ford Windstar van struck the rear of the Pontiac and came to rest just off the shoulder. The Pontiac is owned by Robert McKinnon, 32, of Rumford, who was charged by Trooper Paul Casey with operating after suspension, but Hoyt wasn’t charged.
