CARTHAGE — Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center will present three Maine-based performances in its Sunday series starting with the Sandy River Ramblers and the Maranacook String Band on July 10.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with a jam session at 6 p.m. when audience members may bring musical instruments and play a few minutes with the performers.
Making up the Sandy River Ramblers are veteran banjoist Bud Godsoe of Madrid, mandolin picker Dan Simons, bassist Liz Keach and guitarist Stan Keach, who has written songs for many nationally known bluegrass bands. His co-written song, “Whispering Waters,” recorded by Audie Blaylock, was No. 1 on Sirius XM Satellite Radio in August 2009. Keach has been a prominent member of the Old Time and dance music scene in Maine for more than 30 years.
The band was recognized recently for its work with the Western Maine High Peaks Alliance and the song “Fly Rod Crosby.”
The Maranacook String Band is a group of high-school students known for its three-part harmonies. Directed by Maranacook teacher Stan Keach, these young musicians have performed a number of concerts around Kennebec County. The band is provided strong vocals by Julie Churchill and Lee Stetson.
Other concerts in the July series will include the Sebago-Long Lake Festival at Skye Theatre on Sunday, July 17, and Maine folk icon Dave Mallett on Sunday, July 24.
Tickets are $15 at the door. Call 562-4445. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route. 2.
