Free supper

JAY — The monthly free supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 148 Main St. All are invited. This month will be a complete summertime chicken dinner.

This is a full coarse meal which is free. Donations are accepted to help continue the meals, which have been happening monthly for the past 17 months. Meals are also available to go.

Market canceled

JAY — The Knights of Columbus Flea Market, originally scheduled to run weekly all summer, has been canceled. For more information about the group and its projects, visit www.kofc.org.

Purple caps

FARMINGTON — Franklin County Children’s Task Force is seeking knitters to donate purple newborn baby caps to help prevent infant abuse in Maine. The caps will be given to babies during November.

Caps made with any newborn pattern and any shade of soft, baby-friendly purple yarn are welcome. Caps will be given to babies to help educate parents and other caregivers about the “Period of Purple Crying,” a normal, although frustrating, period of increased crying all infants experience in the first few weeks and months after birth.

Classical, jazz

MOUNT VERNON — A free concert featuring Maine’s and America’s best young classical and jazz musicians will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Mount Vernon Community Center. Most of the musicians have been featured on National Public Radio. There will be piano solos, a violin solo, a harp solo, violin and harp duets and jazz vocals with piano and bass.

EAST DIXFIELD — The annual Christmas in July Country Sunday at Countryfolk Music Theatre on US Route 2 in East Dixfield is Sunday, July 10. Music will be performed from noon to 6 p.m. Donated canned food will go to the local Wilton food bank. Free and for families. For more information, call 645-4411.

Concert series

LIVERMORE — The North Livermore Baptist Church Music in the Meetinghouse summer concert series will continue at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 10, featuring Beth Goodliff, formerly Beth Nichols of Livermore Falls, who honed her talents and became a music teacher. The concert is followed at 9:30 a.m. with morning worship and two more special selections by Beth.

Kahn concert

RANGELEY — Pianist Andy Kahn of Philadelphia will give a solo performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Office & Conference Building at Orgonon, Dodge Pond Road, to benefit The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust.

Kahn lends a personal touch as he takes audiences on a guided tour of America’s unique musical contribution to the arts, “Jazz and the Standard Song.” Kahn, of Philadelphia, performed at Orgonon’s Evenings of Music series in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010.

Refreshments will be served. Tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under and are are available at the Museum Office and the Museum Bookstore at Orgonon, and at the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce in town. For more information, call 864-3443 or email wreich@rangeley.org.
