TURNER — This summer, MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education is offering many new, fun classes for kids and adults.
Rock Hounds Kids Camp is a week-long camp starting July 11. Collect rocks and figure out what they are made from. There will be walking expeditions around the building to find interesting types of rocks. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. Age range 8-11 years old. Children will leave camp with their own labeled rock collection.
A cardio/martial arts class for adults will begin July 11. This is a fun, all-around cardio workout for all fitness levels.
Women & Self Defense will be held July 18. This hands-on basic self defense course is designed to teach women to defend themselves.
CSI Turner starts July 18 and runs for one week. This is for tweens and teens 12-14 years of age. They have a chance to become a Junior Forensic Scientist. They will learn about collecting evidence, “processing” a crime scene and discovering clues to a mock crime scene.
Another week-long camp beginning July 18 is Going Green for youngsters 7-9 years old. Children will learn about saving the earth, eating healthy, recycling, alternative energy and more.
Predator or Prey? is a camp starting July 25 for kids 9-11 years old. Participants will investigate adaptations and environments that animals develop and also go on different explorations, including a trip to Nezinscot Farm.
Space Cadet Kids Camp runs the week of Aug. 1 for youngsters 9-13 years old. Participants will learn amazing facts like which planet revolves backwards or which travels fastest around the sun. Kids will leave with their very own solar system model.
Outdoor Survival Skills Camp also happens the week of Aug. 1 for ages 8-11. Primitive skills, wilderness survival, fire and shelter building and other exciting woods craft skills will be taught. Campers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors and bring a bag lunch and water bottle.
Junior Maine Guide Skills Camp, ages 11-14, runs the week of Aug. 8. Campers will learn traditional outdoor skills such as canoeing, wilderness survival, first-aid, outdoor cooking, fire building, map and compass and more. Dress appropriately.
Camp Universe is a week-long camp also the week of Aug. 8. Preteens 10-12 will learn how to read a star map, build a model of a nanorover and discover the difference between a meteor and a comet.
In another five-day class starting Aug. 8 titled Food Chemistry, youngsters 9-12 years old will learn what makes rock candy so hard, how ice cream is made and even how to grow their own name. Chemistry never tasted so good.
